Sandwiches are nowadays a daily meal for many people. It is eaten as lunch as well as dinner. The choice of bread and the filling provides a healthy sandwich or a calorie disaster. Fortunately, there are endless ways to make healthy and tasty sandwiches.
Let´s break up the healthy Sandwich and let´s explore the healthy Sandwich:
The bread:
Many people think that only Sandwiches made from sliced white bread are the real Sandwiches. You can also make Sandwiches from other types of bread such as pita bread, tortillas and rolls. When buying bread, you should be looking for bread with a lot of fiber and low calories. Light bread has many delicious variations and has very low calories. If you do choose to use regular bread us the Whole Wheat variations. If you use tortillas use the low fat ones. The regular tortillas are very fat.
The spread:
Mayonnaise is one of the popular spreads. Very nice but not really healthy. It is hard to stay off. My advice is to use light mayonnaise and use a small size portion. Mustard is also used and is very delicious. Mosterd come with a great variaty of taste. Depending on your personal taste you have to find your own mosterd.
The English use Chutney on their bread. Also you have many different types of Chutney. But the main types are sweet and spicy. Chutney is delicious and lucky for us you can buy it in almost every supermarket in the U.S. It may sound crazy but light salad dressing is a tasty and low calorie spread. How about thousand Island dressing or honey mustard or one of your own favorite. If you don´t try you will never know if you like it! But be aware the spread can make a healthy sandwich in to a very unhealthy sandwich.
The fillings:
Turkey, ham, roast beef, tuna, canned chicken, cooked chicken, peanut butter, canned crab, salmon and shrimp are all familiar fillings in a Gond way that you can use on your sandwich. There are a number of fillings that you should take smaller portions of . Think of ham, roast beef and peanut butter. What about the Cheese! There are two rules. Rule number 1. As the sandwich without cheese taste good let the cheese out. Rule number 2. Does your cheese sandwich really need Cheese, use light or fat free versions.
The veggies / condiments:
At last we discuss the ingredients that doesn´t make us watch the calories. You may now go completely loose. Try something different than tomato and lettuce and there are countless possibilities. Think of cucumbers, sprouts, mushrooms, spinach, bell peppers, zucchini, onions, or try roasted or grilled veggies like bell peppers, asparagus, eggplant, zucchini, yellow squash, onions. Especially grilled gives them extra nice flavor.
To finish you can use extra capers, fresh or dried herbs, salt-free seasoning blends, or sun-dried tomatoes add.
As you can see with the ingredients above. There is a countless variate of healthy Sandwiches witch can be made. And all healthy.
